He Went Very Peacefully
At 2:10 am February 25, 2010 Ben Jr. took Jesus's hand and earned his angel wings.

My name is Maddie Fosberg. I'm a seventh grader at Ben's school. Ben and his family were in my prayers every night. And when i recieved the news this morning, I was Heartbroken. I still am. but Ben is in Heaven with GOd and Jesus taking care of him and the more i think about losing him to more upset I get. But he's okay. Right about now, I bet he's enjoying some nice breakfest with Jesus.

A few years ago, I, Ginger, had the pleasure of working with our teens at St. Greg's. In preparation for confirmation, Margaret Sullivan Lewis spoke to our teens. In part of her talk, she shared about praying to Saints when things were tough. Bobby, her older brother had pointed out to her that they had their own "Saint" in heaven. That was John, their brother who passed away when Margret was very young. Now we have another Saint we can pray to and ask for help. I just wish it wasn't so painful to have our Saint leave us. Thank you for all you’ve done to help prepare Ben for sainthood.

I have never met little Ben or any of his family members, I learned of his situation thru a friend. I've never heard St. Andrew Church as quite as when Father Paul told the children of how Ben had spoken to him this morning in his prayers. He told them how Ben had thanked them for all they had done for him and for loving him. He told them how Ben could now sing "Jesus loves me" with his whole heart and his full voice.
Julia Grace leaned over and told me that not only would Jesus care for Ben, but Mary would hold him in her arms.
After Mass, the children of KW let go their white balloons towards heaven and we all just watched them float up into the sky. With them, a flock of pelicans flew by and Father Paul shouted like a child with glee. Pelicans, he said are the symbol of life. It was at that moment, standing next to Father Paul in his starched white robes, that I knew we'd all be ok. Because now Ben is watching over us...
Dear Erin and Ben, My heart aches for your family. The pain of losing a child must be enormous. I hope you find comfort in knowing that everyone who has met or never met, but heard about Ben, was inspired by him. He was so brave and full of life. Ben died peacefully and most importantly...he died KNOWING how much he was loved by his family and his SAS family. He is looking down with a HUGE smile on his face...thanking you.
I knew of Ben and have followed his, and your, courageous and valiant fight. As a parent, I cannot even write this without choking up and beginning to imagine the sadness of losing him. The light he brought into your lives will be with you forever and his presence will never leave.

I just read about your familys journey and am saddened by this loss of who seemed like a wonderful boy. I lost my sister to Leukemia 9 years ago and know that things do not get easier but know our families have wonderful angels looking over us adn we will all one great day be together again.

My name is Trudi Borne. My six year old son Boo was diagnosed with liver cancer when he was 20 months. Today he is still with us but somehow I could barely smile today. I heard about Ben from some students at Belle Chasse High where I teach and I've followed Ben's story through Boo's good friend Michael Reason (who has the same condition as Ben). For the past year, after our traditional grace at dinnertime, the kids made up: "and Dear God, please take care of Paw Paw while he lives with you in Heaven and please help Ben to feel better." Tonight Anna Patricia and Dean automatically changed it to say from here on out "Dear God, please take care of Paw Paw and Ben while they live with you in Heaven." We will be praying for your precious Ben and my dear father for the rest of our lives.

Although we moved over 700 miles away last year, you all have NEVER left our hearts and thoughts. Collin always talks about his "Best Friend Ben", especially when we look over our old Brighter Horizons yearbooks. I will forever hold close the memories of Ben, Jackson, and Collin. When you first started this blog you mentioned wanting to "pay it forward" one of these days. I hope you know that you all have succedded 100%. It was great when St. Andrew students honored Ben. His classmates put their names in white balloons and let them fly in the sky towards heaven. As they got higher a flock of white pelicans circled around them. Ben is already looking after us. Peace to the family.

Ben was such an amazing person, who in his short life touched, enriched, and brightened countless peoples lives. For those who knew him, I know we all feel incredebly blessed to have had even a tiny bit of his radiant life be shared with ours. I wish I had the words to comfort you, but I know there are none. I am so sorry for your loss. I too, had a son at St Andrew, in the 5th grade, that was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. I know what you are going through. Noone can feel your pain like one that has experienced it. I wish I could tell you it gets better but it's been 12 years for us and nothing dulls the pain of losing your son. A few years ago, I, Ginger, had the pleasure of working with our teens at St. Greg's. In preparation for confirmation, Margaret Sullivan Lewis spoke to our teens. In part of her talk, she shared about praying to Saints when things were tough. Bobby, her older brother had pointed out to her that they had their own "Saint" in heaven. That was John, their brother who passed away when Margret was very young. Now we have another Saint we can pray to and ask for help. I just wish it wasn't so painful to have our Saint leave us. Thank you for all you’ve done to help prepare Ben for sainthood.

Every time I read your blog, you reminded me what is important in life. I always squeeze my kids a little tighter and spend more time on the floor playing with them as I think of Lil Ben and your family.
Ben will always have a special place in my heart as I know he does in heaven.

ReplyDeleteI've never heard St. Andrew Church as quite as when Father Paul told the children of how Ben had spoken to him this morning in his prayers. He told them how Ben had thanked them for all they had done for him and for loving him. He told them how Ben could now sing "Jesus loves me" with his whole heart and his full voice.
Julia Grace leaned over and told me that not only would Jesus care for Ben, but Mary would hold him in her arms.
After Mass, the children of KW let go their white balloons towards heaven and we all just watched them float up into the sky. With them, a flock of pelicans flew by and Father Paul shouted like a child with glee. Pelicans, he said are the symbol of life. It was at that moment, standing next to Father Paul in his starched white robes, that I knew we'd all be ok. Because now Ben is watching over us...

I hope you find comfort in knowing that everyone who has met or never met, but heard about Ben, was inspired by him. He was so brave and full of life. Ben died peacefully and most importantly...he died KNOWING how much he was loved by his family and his SAS family. He is looking down with a HUGE smile on his face...thanking you.

I just heard about Ben. I am so so sorry that you had to go through what you did! It is NOT easy for a parent or anyone to watch a child die. I lost my son Kody to Neuroblastoma cancer July 29, 2007 at the age of 3 years, 4 months and 13 days old. It is hard. Just know that Ben is no longer suffering or in pain! I heard about Ben from some students at Belle Chasse High where I teach and I've followed Ben's story through Boo's good friend Michael Reason (who has the same condition as Ben). I am writing to "second" what the Ballays said earlier. Through a challenging journey, his life was so very IMPORTANT. He taught us what true love is and what is important in life. ReplyDeleteYou have molded my children into better Christians by being reminded of the way Ben would smile in adversity. Ben is such a sweet, funny little man! We got a kick out of his jokes. And we love the way he always held court!! There has not been a day that has gone by that we haven't thought fondly of your son.
I know I have told you this before, but it means so much to my children.... For the past year, after our traditional grace at dinnertime, the kids made up: "and Dear God, please take care of Paw Paw while he lives with you in Heaven and please help Ben to feel better." Tonight Anna Patricia and Dean automatically changed it to say from here on out "Dear God, please take care of Paw Paw and Ben while they live with you in Heaven." We will be praying for your precious Ben and my dear father for the rest of our lives.
The world lost a bit of SUNSHINE today, but we are blessed to have had him for the short time we did.
I know God will comfort you and your family in this time of sorrow. We love all of you and will always be here for you.

Collin always talks about his "Best Friend Ben", especially when we look over our old Brighter Horizons yearbooks. I will forever hold close the memories of Ben, Jackson, and Collin. When you first started this blog you mentioned wanting to "pay it forward" one of these days. I hope you know that you all have succedded 100%. The grace and strength that your family has shown in the midst of all of this is a TRUE inspiration. It has inspired all of us to be better people. What a gift Little Ben and his family have been to so many! We were lucky to have known Ben and he was lucky to have such unbelievable parents! It was great when St. Andrew students honored Ben. His classmates put their names in white balloons and let them fly in the sky towards heaven. As they got higher a flock of white pelicans circled around them. Ben is already looking after us. Peace to the family.

I am pleased to have known such a strong little boy and I am touched at the impact that he left on everyone especially my 7 year old son that went to Brighter Horizons with him. He has showed us all how to be strong and to endure, he has taught us to smile when it hurts, to laugh when you want to cry, to be stong when it just seems to be impossible. I was forever touched by this little boy and I will remember him when I see the Saints run onto the field, when I see a pirate ship in a movie, when the joke of the day is in my inbox and so many more reminders.

Our condolences go out to Ben’s entire family. We are deeply saddened by the loss of Ben. I met Ben a couple of times but I didn’t really get to know him. I feel as if I did because my sons talked about him all the time. Ben will be greatly missed by all. We know he is at peace as God’s little Pirate in heaven. I am so sorry for your loss. I too, had a son at St Andrew, in the 5th grade, that was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. I know what you are going through. Noone can feel your pain like one that has experienced it. I wish I could tell you it gets better but it's been 12 years for us and nothing dulls the pain of losing your son. I offer your family my prayers. Remember the Lord picks only the beautiful flowers to fill his garden. Your son was special and beautiful.

ReplyDeleteAll of us in AZ who knew you as a kid and has known your family for most of our lives, our heart cries for you and what you must be going through. I'm sorry Ben was chosen, I'm sorry he won't physically be with you, no parent should live without their child. It's not fair.
When my grandma passed 15 years ago my mom would see a penny and pick it up - Grandma used to do that. I found a penny on the ground the minute I heard the news.
