Our New Plan!!

So we returned from Houston yesterday afternoon with a plan! We really had a good quick trip to MD Anderson. The hospital is amazing, its huge but extremely efficient and every employee we ran into was polite, caring, and went out of their way to assist you in whatever you were asking about. Ben's new oncologist Dr Wolff was great he spent over 2 hours with us, going over Ben's case, examining Ben, and then laying out our options. Ben will start a new chemo Etoposide and Valpuric Acid as part of a Phase I trial. Ben will take oral chemo at home everynight. Go once per week to clinic here in New Orleans for blood draw and exam, and then fly to Houston once per month for an exam and MRI. We are hopeful this will stabilize the tumor and hopefully we will be able to get Ben off steroids in the next few weeks. Ben will start the new chemo tonight!

Big Thank You to GiGi and Poppy (our grandparent in-laws!) in Houston for letting us stay with them and taking such good care of us!

Ben had a great day at school today. And is excited for Friday's pumpkin field trip!

More news to come on hows Ben's new chemo is going.
Love Always
Erin

Erin,

We're so very thankful that Ben's care is through MD Anderson. Jay's Mom was treated there and they are THE BEST !!!

Also, we're so glad that have the blood draw locally now. Jay's Mom, just after Katrina, had to go to Houston weekly for the darn blood draw and that was draining! I'm so glad that Ben and you all have been spared that.

It sounds like Dr. Wolff is wonderful. We will be praying that Ben will be able to get off the steriods soon !!!

Julia Grace and Chloe' are also excited about the pumpkin field trip! I hope the weather is nice for the children. Keep us posted and we'll keep the prayers coming...

Hugs & Kisses, Liam, Julia Grace and Chloe' too

Ahoy Ben,

Glad your trip to Houston turned out so well! Be careful when you go to the pumpkin patch...you never know when a goblin will jump out and surprise you!!! Speaking of goblins, how about some Halloween jokes???

Why are mummies good secret agents?
Because they are good at keeping things under wraps!

What do ghosts eat on Halloween?
Ghoulash!

Why did Dracula flunk art class?
Because he could only draw blood!

Ha Ha Ha!!!

Hope you enjoyed the jokes. Glad you're liking kindergarten! You know both of us liked school so much that we're still going every day!!!

Much love to you and your family!
Adios amigos!

Praying, praying, praying that this chemo is the exact perfect one to completely kill any and all cancer cells in Ben's body...... In Jesus' name and for His glory.

So happy to hear you are back home. I see that one of the medicines that Ben will take is Valproic acid. I know a veterinary oncologist here in Colorado that was having some really great results using it with chemo.

Hey Ben - I'm glad you're home after a quick trip to Houston! Just in time for Halloween. I'm guessing you'll be dressing up as a pirate, but if I'm wrong, you'll have to let me know what your costume is. Lauren chose to be a girl pirate for Halloween, so we'll send you pictures! Andy chose Darth Vader and Abby chose a ladybug (well... we chose for her)! Will send you pictures and can't wait to hear about your pumpkin field trip and getting ready for Halloween next week! love you, Aunt Robyn

Dear Erin and Ben,
It was a pleasure meeting your family today. Ben showed such poise and courage as he did the reading in church. Many adults facing cancer do not have Ben's bravery or grace. He is a special boy. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers everyday.

To the brave boy, Ben Sarrat,

I hope you are having fun in school and enjoying all of the Fall events such as picking out a pumpkin and choosing a costume. My family and the ladies in my Bible study pray for you and your family. I think of how brave you and your family are. I've asked God to heal you and bring you and your family peace. With prayers from Virginia, Doris Gage

Hey Ben! What are you going to be for Halloween? I was thinking that *MAYBE* you'd go for a pirate costume. Am I right? I hope you and your little brother have a really fun Halloween. Much love to you and your family.
