Home

Hey Everyone

Sorry for not posting sooner just trying to get settled in and set up with all the new equipment. We came home late Tuesday afternoon. We had the last day of radiation yesterday and then doctors appointments, so today is the first day I've had to set things up and get us settled in.

Ben is doing good. Not quite up for school yet, but he says he wants to go full days not just for a few hours like mom suggests - so we will see. He is on an IV pump all night to give him fluids, he gets breathing treatments every few hours and requires suction several times trough out the day to help him clear his lungs. He has his port accessed all the time now so I can hook his IVs up at night. He is having more troubling getting around, he is very weak and he has very little lung capacity, but he is getting stronger every day.

He had a great visit from his teacher, his principle and a few other special teachers from the school. They brought an awesome card chain with a link note from every student at St Andrew's all 800!! And they have set it up so his he can see his class and they can see him through the computer - kind of like skype. Its fun, he loved seeing all his buddies.

So now we just need to build up our strength again and let that radiation kill the tumor!!! Have to be strong for the SUPERBOWL!!!! Thats right Ben's Saints are going to the SuperBowl for the first time!!! We think its because Ben did those tackling drills with them at the beginning of the season and picks some really great plays that Coach still runs. We are very excited - we definitely have SAINTS FEVER here!!!

We'll update again later! With Pictures!

Glad you're home Ben! Wow, that must be a very long card chain. How cool is that!! Seeing your buddies through the computer, now that's even more than cool!!
Ben, I have no doubt that the Saints are going to the SuperBowl because of those tackling drills that you did with them and, of course, because coach has the team run those special, super, great plays that you picked! Isn't it going to be great to watch those Saints WIN the SuperBowl!! WHO DAT!! WHO DAT!! WHO DAT!!
I'm a WHO DAT you're a WHO DAT if you're not a WHO DAT than you're a POO DAT!!! Geezzzz I hope Ms. Jessica doesn't put me in time out for saying that. ha ha ha ha

Much love and many prayers!!
Love you bunches,
Mrs. Rita

Hey Ben, I'm very glad to hear you are home. You don't know me and I've never posted before, but I've been following you since November of 2008. I met your mom through our mutual friend, Nicole many years ago. I even once had dinner with your mom and your grandparents while in Arizona - again, with our friend Nicole!! Anyway, I just wanted you to know that there is a group of 5th Grade Students at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Omaha, NE that are BIG fans of yours. It all went down like this: hey were discussing the Saints huge trip to the Super Bowl and I explained how it was all because you are their lucky charm. They wanted to know more and so I shared your story with them. I even showed them your pictures from the Saints/Jets game...boy were some of them jealous!! We had six of them at class last night and our topic involved...Saints! (of the holy variety, not the football team) Needless to say, our discussion changed direction and in the end, we decided to make some cards for you since you are such a hero yourself and a good luck charm to a whole football team! I hope you enjoy them!!! GEAUX SAINTS!!!

Dear Brave Pirate Pilot Ben and his very brave crew,
Thank you for keeping us updated on your lives. Mark knows your uncle Pete. We have been praying for you for a long time. Although Mark graduated from Florida, we are cheering for the Saints.
I thought you might like to know about some of my adventures in Virginia. As you know, we have had a lot of snow lately. This has caused American Bald Eagles and other water birds to travel up the river and into tributaries, little streams that flow into the river, looking for fish. Close to my house is a short bridge that crosses one of those small tributaries. I’ve seen four eagles, two adults and two young eagles. I think the young eagles are their children. I have tried and tried to take pictures of the eagles, but I’m not very good at taking pictures, and the eagles won’t stay still. I’ve also seen a heron, ducks, sea gulls, and geese.
As I drove across the bridge, yesterday, I looked for the eagles. There she sat, majestic on a tall post that was once a tree. Again, I got no picture as I had no camera.
This morning I opened my drapes to a happy scene. An antlered buck stood guard as fawns played in my yard and through the forest. They ran, jumped and chased until the buck saw Mark and me. They took off through the forest looking for safer ground.
Now it is snowing, again. All of God’s creatures are staying warm in their hidden places.
When you get well and come to visit Uncle Pete, you can come to visit me and my family. Of course, I would like to meet the entire crew. We could walk through the woods to the water and look for all of the creatures that live there. Would you like to go fishing? Mark could take you and Shaun. Perhaps the entire crew would like to go fishing with our crew.
With Prayers,
Doris and Mark Gage, Virginia
