Back to School

What a day we had today!!! Ben had planned on going into school for lunch and a movie - after all it was corn-dog day! But this morning when he woke up Ben said he wanted to go to school for the whole day. I explained he still had to go to treatment so we compromised - we went to school first thing and he had breakfast there then we went to radiation. I was sure after treatment he would want to go home and rest for a while but he said no - he wanted to go back to school. So I took him to school, I figured we would stay about 30 minutes and then he would need to go home. We arrived at 10 am and left today at 3:45 !! Yes he did a full day at school. I sat out front and rocked in the rocking chair and tried to stay out of the whirl wind of activity that surrounds Brighter Horizons - after all it was Sam's Club shopping day!!

Ben snacked with his class, did puzzle games with the class, colored with the class and played the freeze game with the class (he is really good at freezing), then of course he ate corn dogs with the class and then it was movie time. When it was time for the playground Ben went out and sat in the sun. Not a lot of running around for him today. But what a change - he has spent the last several days sleeping or laying down for roughly 90% of the day and today it was like he decided he was not going to be sick anymore - which is very cool with me!

We had a great day today, tomorrow is clinic so probably not going to be a great day but we have all kinds of toys and games packed for the very long expected clinic day.

We'll post some great pictures from today as soon as I can figure out how to get them out of my email -they are trapped!!

Love you all

Erin

Ben,

I'm so happy that you came to school today, even though I didn't get to see you. It sounds like you had a fun day, and I'm sure that you will sleep good tonight. We miss you so much around school, and it was great to have you back. It's just not the same when our little pirate isn't there. I saw that there were a few corn dogs left over from lunch; I guess that you didn't eat them all! See you later, buddy. Only two more days until your birthday!!!!

Jill,
I just read lil Ben's story. Wow, he is one brave boy. Im a counselor here at Cabrini and recieved a flier today with Bens website. Recently I have been dealing with my Mom's AML treatment, and thru her website I have met a lot of parents with children who are facing difficult times. I can't imagine what it is like to watch your son go thru treatment. We must rely on hope and faith. I will keep your family in my prayers. I do believe in Miracles! nicole cook

Wow, Ben! I never imagined you'd have quite that big and happy a day! You are a strong Pirate. I hope today you were as brave a pirate as a boy could be. Everyone expects a lot of you, we know. But we're very proud of you. Hang in there, tiger. We know you're doing your best.
We were awakened by our Chihuahua, Pip, at our motel in southern Illinois last night at 3, and she didn't want to go back to bed, so we got an early start. Lots of wind and trucks to fight, but here we are just a few hours from New Orleans, north of Jackson. Poor Jack needed a nap from all the driving.
Here's another of my dumb elephant jokes: How can you tell if an elephant is in the bathtub with you? By the smell of peanuts on its breath.
Can't wait to see you and, of course, OUR Megan too. She's always our little girl even though she's grown up.

Love, Megan's Mom, Peg

Hi Ben! It sounds like you had an awesome day at school yesterday!! It's snowing here in Colorado, so sitting in the sun sounds great. Not to mention the corndogs and the movie. Was it a pirate movie?
So here is another Pirate joke, let me know if you've heard this one:
What is a pirate's favorite kind of cookie?
Chips AHOY!!!
